Falcons Add Former First-Round WR to Practice Squad
The Atlanta Falcons have bolstered their receiver group by signing Phillip Dorsett II to their practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday. Dorsett, a former first-round pick, was selected 29th overall by the Indianapolis Colts in 2015.
Dorsett, 31, spent his first two NFL seasons with the Colts, playing in 26 games, starting seven, and recording 51 receptions for 753 yards and three touchdowns. In 2017, Indianapolis traded him to the New England Patriots, where he spent three seasons, amassing 73 catches for 881 yards and eight touchdowns.
After missing the 2020 season due to a foot injury, Dorsett played for three teams in 2021: the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, and Houston Texans, where he made seven receptions for 110 yards. In 2022, he became a steady contributor for the Texans, appearing in 15 games with four starts and catching 20 passes for 257 yards and one touchdown.
Dorsett signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in March 2023 but was released at the end of the preseason. He then joined the Denver Broncos’ practice squad and appeared in two games but did not record any catches. The Broncos released him in August 2023, and Dorsett remained a free agent until now. He had worked out for the Falcons in September but was not signed at that time.
With his first-round pedigree and blazing 4.33 40-yard dash speed, Dorsett brings valuable experience to Atlanta’s practice squad.
