Atlanta Falcons Re-Sign Former First-Rounder from Alabama

Just nine days after releasing linebacker Rashaan Evans from their practice squad, the Atlanta Falcons have brought him back, re-signing the former Alabama All-American on Monday.

This marks the third time Evans has been signed by the Falcons, after leading the team with 159 tackles during the 2022 season. Despite his strong performance, the Falcons did not re-sign Evans following that season, and he went on to play in nine games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. Evans has yet to play during the 2024 season but originally joined Atlanta’s practice squad on October 1. However, roster moves led to his release on October 12.

When the Falcons activated linebacker Nate Landman from injured reserve, they released cornerback Kevin King to make room. King was later re-signed to the practice squad, and to clear a roster spot for him, the Falcons let Evans go. Evans, a 2018 first-round draft pick from Alabama’s 2017 CFP national championship team, spent four seasons with the Tennessee Titans before signing a one-year deal with Atlanta in 2022.

Though practice squad players do not participate in games, they train and prepare alongside the active roster. NFL teams can promote two practice squad players to the active roster for each game.

The Falcons’ next game is against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 27 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Evans, who was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A Lineman of the Year in 2013 at Auburn High School, earned first-team All-American honors at Alabama in 2017.
