The Bills may not need to look far for their next big trade target. This past week was nearly perfect for Buffalo. After defeating their division rival, the New York Jets, in a Monday Night Football showdown, the AFC East took the spotlight for a few days.
While the Jets traded for wide receiver Davante Adams, the Bills made their own splash by acquiring Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns. Cooper impressed in his Buffalo debut, catching four of five targets for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Buffalo also dominated the Tennessee Titans, despite a slow start. The Bills scored 34 unanswered points, winning 34-10, and now sit at 5-2 atop their division. With Cooper seemingly filling a gap on offense, the Bills are emerging as strong contenders. However, they might not be done making moves.
General manager Brandon Beane has made it clear that the team is fully committed to chasing a Super Bowl title and will explore further trades if the right opportunity arises.
The Bills could consider bolstering their pass rush before the November 5 trade deadline. With Von Miller still suspended for four games, adding another pass rusher could be key. One option could be Azeez Ojulari of the New York Giants.
Although the Bills have gotten solid production from their defense, adding Ojulari could strengthen the rotation. The Giants are likely headed for another losing season, and Ojulari has recently been pushed out of the starting lineup. As a 2021 second-round pick, Ojulari has performed well lately, recording 3.0 sacks in his last two games and totaling 4.0 on the season. He’s also in the final year of his contract, which could make him an affordable trade option.
A move for Ojulari wouldn’t break the bank—possibly costing a Day 3 pick—and would be a low-risk, high-reward rental for the Bills. Plus, Ojulari wouldn’t have far to travel, quickly transitioning from a struggling team to a contender.
While the Bills don’t need this trade to succeed, making this kind of move could help solidify their championship aspirations by addressing needs on both sides of the ball.
