Tua Tagovailoa, the former quarterback for Alabama, has been designated to return from injured reserve.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has been sidelined since suffering a concussion in Week 2, is set to make his return from injured reserve. The former Alabama star is still going through concussion protocol, but according to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, the team plans to designate him for return, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Tagovailoa is targeting a potential comeback in Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, though he must first be fully cleared.
Tagovailoa, who has faced a history of concussions, faced calls for retirement after his most recent head injury. The earliest he can return is October 27. However, a key factor in his decision to continue playing is the lucrative four-year, $212.4 million contract he signed during the offseason, which includes an annual salary of $53.1 million, ranking third among NFL quarterbacks.
Despite contemplating retirement during the 2022 season due to multiple head injuries, Tagovailoa has continued to improve each year, including leading the NFL in passing yards (4,624) last season and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. The Dolphins, currently struggling with a 2-4 record and averaging the fewest points per game in the league, are eager for Tagovailoa’s return to boost their offense.
