Penn State has secured a commitment from 2025 three-star safety Josh Johnson, a former Louisville pledge. Johnson, from Ironton High School in Ohio, committed to the Nittany Lions on Monday after initially choosing Louisville on June 14. His decision to flip came after a visit to Penn State for the UCLA game on October 5, leading to his decommitment from Louisville just days later.
Johnson, who visited Penn State officially in June, fills a key spot in the Nittany Lions’ recruiting class after three-star safety Antonio Branch Jr. flipped to Colorado in September. Penn State’s 2025 recruiting class now has 25 commitments, ranking 14th nationally according to 247Sports. Johnson becomes the fifth defensive back in the group, joining four-stars Daryus Dixson and Jahmir Joseph, and three-stars Xxavier Thomas and Braswell Thomas.

He is the fourth recruit in the 2025 class to flip to Penn State, following wide receiver Matthew Outten (Virginia Tech), linebacker Cam Smith (Duke), and running back Jabree Wallace-Coleman (Georgia). Penn State remains in pursuit of more flips, particularly with in-state prospects like wide receiver Lex Cyrus (South Carolina), linebacker Bradley Gompers (Duke), defensive end Zahir Mathis (Ohio State), and tight end Andrew Olesh (Michigan).
