The Detroit Tigers could be a potential destination for Jorge Soler in a trade with the Atlanta Braves. The Braves face a dilemma regarding their designated hitter role, as they are likely to exercise Marcell Ozuna’s option for 2025. Ozuna has been a key offensive player and is well-regarded in the clubhouse, making it unlikely that he will be moved. This situation raises questions about Soler’s future with the team.
After the Braves traded for Soler, he had a successful stint, hitting nine home runs and posting an .849 OPS in 49 games. However, his defensive performance was poor, evidenced by a -7 Outs Above Average in just 46 games, indicating he is best suited for a DH role. With Ozuna already filling that position and Ronald Acuña Jr. potentially needing to DH following his second ACL surgery, Soler’s role becomes redundant.
Jorge Soler
Soler is owed $32 million over the next two seasons, leading the Braves to consider trading him this offseason, with the Tigers as a team of interest. The Tigers are seeking a right-handed bat to diversify their lineup and enhance their pitching staff. While the market for dedicated DHs like Soler isn’t typically robust, his consistent power—153 home runs and an .812 OPS since 2019—makes him an appealing option for teams looking for a cost-effective power hitter. The Braves may need to absorb some of his salary, but finding a trade partner, such as the Tigers, should not be too challenging.
