Right-handed pitcher Michael Grove has been removed from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ National League Division Series (NLDS) roster against the San Diego Padres due to a shoulder injury. Rookie right-hander Ben Casparius has been named as his replacement.

MLB medical director Dr. Gary Green confirmed the injury after reviewing the medical reports, according to the commissioner’s office.

Grove pitched in the eighth inning of the Dodgers’ 10-2 loss in Game 2, where he allowed a home run to Xander Bogaerts and struck out Jake Cronenworth. Grove will be ineligible to play in the NL Championship Series if the Dodgers advance but could potentially return for the World Series.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts commented on the situation, saying, “He’s been dealing with the shoulder issue for a while, and the recovery hasn’t gone well. Michael is understandably very disappointed.”

This season, the 27-year-old Grove had a 4-4 record with a 5.12 ERA in two starts and 37 relief appearances.

Casparius, a 25-year-old rookie, made his MLB debut on August 31. He has a 2-0 record with a 2.16 ERA in three relief appearances, recording 12 strikeouts and four walks over 8 1/3 innings.
