JUST IN: Elite QB flips commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn

Elite QB Deuce Knight Changes Commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn, Securing Key Recruiting Victory for Tigers

Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has officially switched his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn, a decision announced on Wednesday. This follows weeks of speculation regarding his commitment, initially made last September. Knight is ranked as the No. 34 player overall in the 2025 recruiting cycle by 247Sports and is recognized as one of the most athletically gifted prospects in his class.

With Knight’s commitment, Auburn has surpassed LSU, moving to the No. 3 spot in the 2025 recruiting rankings. The Tigers are poised to achieve their best recruiting class under coach Hugh Freeze, following a previous No. 10 ranking. In contrast, Notre Dame has dropped to No. 13 in the 2025 standings.

Hailing from Lucedale, Mississippi, Knight is the No. 5 quarterback in his class and drew interest from Ole Miss, Alabama, and Colorado before initially committing last fall. He visited Auburn unofficially during their Week 1 game against Alabama A&M and attended another game against Cal.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna describes Knight as “the most polarizing prospect in this class,” emphasizing his exceptional physical potential. Knight boasts a remarkable 42-inch vertical leap and has a strong track and field background, with family ties to athletics, including a brother who plays at Indiana. Petagna asserts that Knight fulfills every expectation as a top recruit.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and being a left-handed thrower, Knight is recognized as one of the standout athletes in the 2025 class, having debuted at No. 2 on 247Sports’ annual ‘Freaks List.’ Petagna notes that if Knight were to participate in an NFL scouting combine, he would rank in the top 1% among quarterbacks. The key question surrounding Knight is his development as a passer, but based on his impressive performance at the Elite 11 finals, he appears to be on the right track.

With Knight’s commitment, Auburn’s upcoming recruiting class has now reached 25 commitments. The class features other notable talents, including five-star edge Jared Smith, five-star DL Malik Autry, four-star edge Jakaleb Faulk, four-star safety Eric Winters, and four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Marshall.

Despite criticism of Freeze’s management of the quarterback position, particularly regarding the decision to stick with underwhelming Payton Thorne instead of pursuing transfer options, the addition of Knight to a strong recruiting class, following last year’s signing of elite QB prospect Walker White, serves as a promising sign for Auburn supporters.
