Notre Dame welcomes veteran top experienced defensive player back from season-ending injury in ground style.

Notre Dame football is set to welcome back injured defensive star Jordan Botelho, should he choose to return for the 2025 season. While the team’s 3-1 start to the season has been somewhat disappointing, the impact of injuries has added to their struggles. Since fall camp, the Irish have lost several key players, including offensive linemen, a defensive back, and Botelho, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during a dominant win over Purdue.

Speaking ahead of Notre Dame’s upcoming game against Louisville, head coach Marcus Freeman expressed a strong desire to see Botelho return in 2025. “We’d love to have him back,” Freeman said. However, it remains uncertain whether the fifth-year grad student will opt to return for another year or move forward with his football career.

Botelho, who was off to the best start of his career, had recorded 12 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 quarterback hurries in just two and a half games before his injury. Freeman confirmed that 2024 would count as a redshirt season for Botelho, allowing him the option to return. For now, Botelho has time to decide his next steps.
