Brent Pry Provides Major Virginia Tech Football Injury Updates
Through the first four weeks of the season, Virginia Tech football has been hit hard by injuries, with players on both offense and defense going down each week. Head coach Brent Pry addressed the media Monday, a day earlier than usual, as the Hokies prepare for a short week and a Friday night game against Miami. Pry provided significant injury updates, with mixed results.
On defense, linebacker Keli Lawson is listed as “day-to-day” after playing only four snaps against Rutgers. His availability will be limited this week, which could be a blow to a linebacker group that has performed well so far. Another linebacker, Jayden McDonald, is unlikely to play against Miami, which would further strain the defense.
The injury news worsened on Tuesday, with Pry announcing that defensive tackle Kemari Copeland is “unlikely to play” and left guard Layth Ghannam is ruled out. These absences add to an already injury-riddled offensive line, which has struggled since the season opener at Vanderbilt.
Copeland’s absence will put extra pressure on the remaining defensive tackles, making it harder to contain Miami’s potent offense, led by quarterback Cam Ward and running back Damien Martinez, who have excelled on the ground during the first month of the season.
On offense, Ghannam joins other key players battling injuries, including Jennings, Drones, and Tuten. With the Hokies heading into Miami shorthanded, they’ll face another tough challenge before traveling to Stanford and then getting a much-needed bye week to recover.
