JUST IN: Marcus Freeman confirms veteran defensive back as replacement for five-star blockbuster after horrible injury.

Notre Dame football has a pair of defensive backs ready to step up after a key departure. As the Irish prepare for their biggest game of the year this weekend, they’re also adjusting to the loss of defensive back Jaden Mickey, who is out for the rest of the season.

Despite some injury setbacks in the secondary, there’s no need for panic in South Bend. The Irish defense has solid depth, with a couple of true freshmen expected to step up in Mickey’s absence. In fact, Mickey’s departure could be beneficial for Notre Dame in the long run, as it will provide valuable playing time for younger players.

Notre Dame is in good hands with standout performances from Benjamin Morrison and Christian Gray. Additionally, Jordan Clark and Xavier Watts provide strong support at safety, allowing the team to ease freshmen Leonard Moore and Karson Hobbs into larger roles.

Moore has already seen the field, playing 55 defensive snaps, including 5 critical snaps in Week 1 against Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Hobbs has appeared in two games, logging 15 snaps, but his playing time is expected to increase as the season progresses.

Moore seems poised to benefit the most, likely taking over Mickey’s role, with Hobbs moving into Moore’s previous spot. Veteran Benjamin Morrison is confident in Moore’s potential, stating, “Leonard Moore will be better than I am here. He’s a special kid.”

Notre Dame is hopeful that both Moore and Hobbs can make significant contributions, with two-thirds of the season still remaining.
