Clemson running back Phil Mafah, one of the team’s key offensive players, suffered an injury during Saturday’s game against NC State but reassured everyone that it wasn’t as serious as it first appeared. Following Clemson’s 59-35 victory, Mafah stated, “I’m all good.” The injury occurred during Clemson’s second offensive drive when Mafah, the starting running back, caught a short 4-yard pass and was tackled by a NC State defender. After the hit, Mafah was slow to get up, attempted to rise but then lay back down. Trainers quickly attended to him, and he walked off the field on his own, heading straight to the injury tent. He was met with cheers from the Memorial Stadium crowd as he exited.

Mafah spent around five minutes in the tent before returning to the field and immediately scoring a 38-yard rushing touchdown on his first carry back, finishing the game with a team-high 107 rushing yards. Postgame, Mafah explained that he had suffered a shoulder stinger but felt fine. He clarified that when he lay back down after initially getting up, it was at the suggestion of a Clemson trainer who advised caution in case the injury was more serious. “They told me to stay down, so I just did,” Mafah said, adding, “I was able to bounce back, so I’m all good.”
