The Jets are making a strategic move to bolster their defense as they navigate the 2024 NFL season with a solid 2-1 start. After an opening loss to the 49ers, they rebounded with wins over the Titans and Patriots. However, injuries, especially to their defensive line, have posed challenges, including the loss of Jermaine Johnson to an Achilles injury. Players like Will McDonald IV have stepped up, but the Jets are seeking more depth.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that former Patriots and Eagles defensive back Jalen Mills will join the Jets’ practice squad. Mills, a versatile 30-year-old who can play both cornerback and safety, brings valuable experience, having played with the Eagles and Patriots. With career stats including 406 tackles, 7 interceptions, and 53 pass deflections, Mills is known for his physicality and could strengthen the Jets’ run defense and tackling in open space. His addition provides much-needed depth and veteran leadership to the Jets’ secondary.
