Georgia Bulldogs All-American guard recently had TightRope surgery on his sprained left ankle and is expected to miss a few games, coach Kirby Smart said Tuesday. Ratledge, a senior from Rome, Georgia, sustained the injury during the second quarter of the team’s 13-12 win over Kentucky on Saturday. The typical recovery for this procedure is four to six weeks.
In contrast, quarterback Carson Beck, who sprained the AC joint in his non-throwing shoulder, isn’t expected to miss any games. He suffered the injury on a run in the fourth quarter at Kentucky, but Smart downplayed the severity, noting Beck has practiced and will be ready for their next game against Alabama on Sept. 28.
Ratledge, who has started 31 games for Georgia and was a first-team All-SEC selection last year, was listed as the No. 4 interior offensive line prospect for the 2025 NFL draft by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. Micah Morris and Dylan Fairchild stepped in as guards during his absence. Smart expects Ratledge to make a full recovery following his surgery, referencing tight end Brock Bowers’ speedy return from the same procedure last season.
