Jermaine Johnson’s departure leaves a significant gap, as he was an all-around edge rusher who excelled in both pass-rushing and run defense, earning high marks from Pro Football Focus and a Pro Bowl nod last season. While McDonald and McKinley are more pass-rush specialists, and McGregor and Watts are better at defending the run, none of them match Johnson’s versatility.
The Jets could explore free-agent options to fill Johnson’s role. Although the market is limited in mid-September, there are a few potential players who could provide pass-rushing ability or reliable depth, offering a safety net behind their undrafted prospects.
