Chiefs, Ravens Could Compete for Panthers Trade Target
With Bryce Young struggling as the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback, the team may explore trading veteran players like Jadeveon Clowney. Carolina signaled they aren’t expecting much success this season by benching Young in favor of Andy Dalton, and this could lead to dealing veterans like Clowney. The Panthers brought in Clowney, a high-profile free agent, to help fill the void left by Brian Burns’ departure. While Clowney hasn’t notched a sack yet, he’s coming off a strong season with the Ravens, where he recorded a career-best 9.5 sacks.
Despite signing Clowney to a two-year deal, Carolina could still trade him. At 31, Clowney is nearing the end of his career and might not fit into the Panthers’ long-term plans. Trading him would free up $2 million in cap space this year and $10 million in 2025. Teams like the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs could be interested in acquiring the veteran pass rusher.

Potential Clowney Trade to the Ravens or Chiefs
The Ravens are a natural fit for Clowney, having gotten the most out of him during his productive 9.5-sack season. Although they couldn’t re-sign him due to cap constraints, they could now land him at a reduced cost. Carolina has already paid a portion of his salary, meaning the Ravens would only take on a manageable cap hit of around $2 million for 2024. Baltimore, currently dealing with injuries to edge rusher Kyle Van Noy, could use Clowney to boost their defense.
The Kansas City Chiefs, meanwhile, may be 2-0 but are not dominating opponents, as evidenced by their narrow point differential. With their defense needing reinforcement, especially opposite George Karlaftis, a trade for Clowney would strengthen their pass rush alongside Chris Jones. Adding Clowney could ensure the Chiefs’ defense keeps pace with their high-powered offense, making them even more formidable as the season progresses.
