Five Detroit Lions players could be at risk of losing their 53-man roster spot to Tim Patrick. The team has long needed a bigger-bodied receiver, and while Josh Reynolds was highlighted by Dan Campbell as crucial, the internal options haven’t worked out. To address this, the Lions brought in Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson on the practice squad as potential reinforcements.
Patrick was elevated to the active roster for last Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, seeing more action than expected with 33 snaps and two catches for 12 yards. When asked about Patrick’s performance, Campbell indicated that the veteran had earned a more prominent role in the offense.
“We liked what we saw,” Campbell said. “It was a positive showing, and we’ll look to get him more involved moving forward. He’s big, physical, and has a large catch radius. There’s definitely a place for him here.”
Tim Patrick
Patrick, still on the practice squad, could be signed by another team if they offer him a spot on their active roster. The Lions can elevate him two more times before they need to permanently add him to the 53-man roster, and it’s likely they won’t wait long to make that decision. As a result, someone from the current roster will likely be let go soon to make room for Patrick.
Here are five players who appear to be the most likely candidates to lose their roster spots to make room for Patrick.
