Good News: Dallas Cowboys Are Set To Sign Former Eagles Starter

The Dallas Cowboys suffered a significant 44-19 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, September 15. In a Bleacher Report article from September 16, NFL analyst Matt Holder described the defeat as a “humbling” experience for coach Mike McCarthy’s team, who now sit at 1-1 and face the Baltimore Ravens next. Holder suggests that Dallas could benefit from signing former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zach Cunningham, who is currently a free agent. Holder argues that while the Cowboys’ linebackers performed well in Week 1, they struggled against the Saints, particularly in containing Alvin Kamara, who tallied 115 rushing yards and five total touchdowns. He believes Cunningham could help bolster the defense, especially in stopping the run, even if just as a practice squad option.

Cunningham, originally drafted by the Houston Texans in 2017, spent one season with the Eagles, but his performance was unremarkable, as noted by Devon Platana in Section 215. Cunningham’s inconsistency in tackling and pass coverage led to a subpar season, with declining grades from Pro Football Focus.

In the same Bleacher Report article, Holder also suggested that the Cowboys should consider Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Tutu Atwell in 2024 free agency. With Dallas potentially losing wideout Brandin Cooks, Atwell could serve as a cost-effective deep threat for the Cowboys’ offense.
