Bulldogs quarterback hinted at a potential injury following Georgia’s narrow win over Kentucky on Saturday, September 14. Despite being ranked No. 1, Georgia nearly lost the road game, and Beck, a Heisman Trophy candidate, appeared to hurt his shoulder during the game. ABC’s Molly McGrath noted that Beck seemed to favor his shoulder and asked him about it in a postgame interview. Beck reassured her with a smile, saying, “I’ll be fine,” and repeated the statement when asked again. However, he added, “Thank God we got a bye week, that’s all I gotta say,” which may raise concerns for fans.
Georgia had dominated their first two games of the season, with decisive wins over Clemson and Tennessee Tech. However, the game against Kentucky was much closer, with the Wildcats nearly taking the lead late in the fourth quarter. Beck’s performance was less impressive than previous games, completing 15 of 24 passes for 160 yards and rushing for 18 yards. The Bulldogs are set to face No. 4 Alabama in two weeks, a game in which Beck will need to be at his best for Georgia to retain their top ranking.
