The Buffalo Bills delivered a dominant performance in their Week 2 victory, beating the Miami Dolphins 31-10. Both the defense and offense shined, with the defense allowing only 225 yards and intercepting Tua Tagovailoa three times. The offense contributed 139 passing yards, 108 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns. While there were aspects of the game to critique, two players stood out in particular.
Running back James Cook
James Cook had a career-best performance, rushing for 78 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, along with 17 receiving yards and an additional touchdown. With Miami focusing heavily on its secondary and failing to address the defensive interior after Christian Wilkins’ departure, Cook took advantage and exploited the Dolphins’ weakened front. As Josh Allen recovers from a hand injury, the Bills are leaning on Cook and the ground game, which has been evolving with new offensive schemes. Cook’s performance was crucial for building momentum for this revamped offense.
Edge rusher Von Miller
Von Miller has bounced back after a lackluster 2023 season, delivering two impressive performances in the first two games of 2024. In Week 2, he recorded four pressures, one sack, and two tackles, showing he’s returning to his pre-injury form. Miller’s resurgence has bolstered the Bills’ pass rush, with him and Greg Rousseau combining for five sacks so far this season. If Miller continues at this pace, his future with the team could extend beyond this year, which would be a significant boost for Buffalo’s defense.
