Colorado Avalanche forward Artturi Lehkonen is expected to miss the start of the 2024-25 season, as confirmed by teammate Nathan MacKinnon earlier this week. It has now been reported by John Matisz that Lehkonen underwent shoulder surgery in the off-season, with no specific timeline set for his return.
Lehkonen, who recorded 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points in 45 games last season, was hindered by injuries, including an upper-body injury from a hit by Seattle Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak. In the 2022-23 season, Lehkonen reached a career-high with 21 goals and 51 points in 64 games but missed nearly 20 games due to a broken finger and subsequent surgery.

Originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Lehkonen made his NHL debut in 2016-17. He played six seasons in Montreal, where his best season saw him tally 31 points in 82 games in 2018-19. Lehkonen was pivotal in the Canadiens’ Cinderella run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final, scoring a key overtime goal to eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights.
Over his career, Lehkonen has accumulated 117 goals and 126 assists for 243 points in 511 games with the Canadiens and Avalanche.
