SAD NEWS: another season ending injury for Philadelphia top star

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list due to a strain in his left hand.

Bohm sustained the injury while swinging during the Phillies’ game against the Atlanta Braves on August 29. Initially staying with the team in hopes of a quick recovery, Bohm’s condition didn’t improve as expected, leading to his removal from the active roster. He noted experiencing similar pain in 2021, which sidelined him for 16 days, describing the pain as feeling like his hand had been hit by a hammer.

“We’ll focus on strengthening it and doing what we can without causing pain,” Bohm said. “Let it rest and heal so I’m ready when the time comes.”

Before the injury, the 28-year-old was having an outstanding season, helping the Phillies secure an eight-game lead in the NL East. Bohm was hitting .290, with 89 RBIs, tying him for fifth in the National League alongside teammate Kyle Schwarber. He was also chosen as the NL’s starting third baseman for the All-Star Game.

Regarding his decision to go on the injured list, Bohm said, “It was up to them how long they wanted to be without an extra man on the bench. I didn’t want to hurt the team by being unavailable.”

Bohm participated in defensive drills and took dry swings as recently as Thursday, but his inability to progress to hitting made it clear he couldn’t continue with the team.

“It’s pretty pointless until I can hit,” Bohm said. “It got to the point where I couldn’t swing.”
