Four Steelers at risk of losing their starting roles after Week 1

While the Steelers managed to edge out a win in their Week 1 game against Atlanta, it wasn’t an impressive showing. The 18-10 victory was a typical ‘Mike Tomlin football’ grind, though more points would have been appreciated.

Key players like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward delivered as expected, and George Pickens provided a crucial spark on offense, helping Chris Boswell have a strong day kicking. However, several players underperformed, and they could soon see their starting roles in jeopardy.

Van Jefferson, WR
Despite playing the most snaps of any Steelers wide receiver in Week 1, Van Jefferson was ineffective, catching just one pass for one yard on two targets. His poor performance, reflected in the lowest offensive grade from Pro Football Focus, could cost him his starting spot.

Broderick Jones, RT
Though he avoided disaster, Broderick Jones struggled in Week 1, earning the lowest grade among Pittsburgh’s offensive linemen. With 2024 first-rounder Troy Fautanu nearing full health, Jones may be relegated to swing tackle if his play doesn’t improve.

Elandon Roberts, LB
Elandon Roberts was exposed in Week 1, particularly in coverage and run pursuit, missing two tackles. With rookie Payton Wilson performing well in the opener and earning more snaps, Roberts could soon lose his starting position.

Beanie Bishop Jr., CB
Though not disastrous, Beanie Bishop allowed all four of his targets to be completed for 29 yards and a touchdown. If he doesn’t improve, his chances to remain in the starting lineup may dwindle.
