Detroit Lions to Induct Calvin Johnson Jr. into Pride of the Lions

Allen Park, Mich. – The Detroit Lions announced that **Calvin Johnson Jr.**, a 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver, will be inducted into the **Pride of the Lions** during halftime of their Homecoming game on September 30, 2024. The ceremony will take place during the Lions’ Monday Night Football matchup against the Seattle Seahawks at 8:15 PM ET. The Pride of the Lions is a permanent display at Ford Field, celebrating the franchise’s greatest players.

Detroit Lions Chief Operating Officer **Mike Disner** delivered the surprise news to Johnson during his remarks at the **Calvin Johnson Jr. Foundation Celebrity Golf Outing** on July 15 at the Detroit Golf Club.

“We are excited to welcome Calvin Johnson Jr. to the Pride of the Lions,” said **Rod Wood**, Detroit Lions President and CEO. “His legendary contributions on the field and his connection to the city of Detroit make this a well-earned recognition. His legacy will now be forever honored inside Ford Field.”

Johnson will join 20 other Lions legends in the Pride of the Lions, which was first established in 2009. Most recent inductees include OT **Lomas Brown** in 2023 and LB **Chris Spielman** in 2021. Other notable members include **Roger Brown**, **Alex Karras**, Barry Sanders**, and **Jason Hanson.

Calvin Johnson Jr. Career Highlights
– Selected by the Detroit Lions with the second overall pick in the **2007 NFL Draft** from Georgia Tech.
– Started 130 of 135 games during his nine-year career, recording 731 receptions for 11,619 yards (15.9 avg.) and 83 touchdowns.
– Holds the franchise records for career receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
– Inducted into the **Pro Football Hall of Fame** in 2021, becoming the second Lions player and seventh wide receiver to be a first-ballot inductee.
