Florida Gators fans have launched a $26 million GoFundMe campaign aimed at buying out head coach Billy Napier’s contract. Frustration grew after the team’s rough start to the 2024 season, including a 41-17 loss to the University of Miami. Napier sparked further controversy by making a remark about fans in rural Central Florida, which he later clarified, saying it wasn’t intended to criticize the fanbase.
“I wasn’t referencing our fans at all,” Napier explained, adding that he was speaking generally about the impact of social media on young people’s lives. He emphasized that he would never intentionally criticize fans and was simply discussing broader societal issues.

Napier, who took over as head coach in 2022, has posted an 11-15 overall record (6-10 in the SEC). His contract buyout stands at $26 million, and while the GoFundMe effort seems far-fetched, the frustration from fans is evident. Meanwhile, the University of Central Florida has seized the moment, poking fun at Napier’s comments.
