Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young completed his 2024-25 roster with the addition of a veteran transfer from Eastern Michigan. After an unexpected exodus of players following the Hokies’ NIT loss to Ohio State in March, Young and his staff faced the challenge of rebuilding the team for the upcoming season. Some departures were anticipated, but others came as a surprise.
Despite having 14 players participating in summer workouts, the Hokies had one spot remaining, which they filled with Eastern Michigan transfer Connor Serven. Serven, who previously played at Illinois before transferring to Eastern Michigan, brings versatility and experience to the team with two years of eligibility left. Last season, he averaged 3.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
Serven will join a frontcourt that includes transfers Ben Burnham (College of Charleston), Tobi Lawal (VCU), freshman Ryan Jones, and senior Mylyjael Poteat. Virginia Tech will begin their season on Nov. 4 against Delaware State at Cassell Coliseum.
Coach Young expressed excitement about Serven’s addition, praising his skill, intelligence, and work ethic, calling him “our type of guy.”
