LATEST UPDATE: Exceptional MLB star of the modern era wins another AL player of the month.

Here are MLB’s top eight performers from August. With the calendar turning, we’re now in the thick of the 2024 postseason race. But before diving into September baseball, let’s recap August.

First, let’s highlight the Players of the Month, presented by Chevrolet.

Aaron Judge, NYY, AL Player of the Month
Judge, on his second quest for a 60-homer season, added 12 more in August despite being walked 25 times (10 of them intentional). He led all of baseball in batting average (.389), on-base percentage (.530), and slugging (.856), reaching base more than half the time.

Corbin Carroll, AZ, NL Player of the Month
After a challenging start to 2024, Carroll bounced back in August, showing the dynamic talent that earned him unanimous NL Rookie of the Year honors in 2023. He hit .280/.342/.700 with 11 home runs and 24 RBIs, with only Judge and Shohei Ohtani hitting more homers.

Bowden Francis, TOR, AL Pitcher of the Month
Francis wasn’t in the Blue Jays’ rotation at the start of August, but he made the most of his opportunity. In five starts, he threw 34 1/3 innings with a 1.05 ERA and 0.41 WHIP, racking up 39 strikeouts. He came close to a no-hitter on Aug. 24, losing it in the ninth inning.

Blake Snell, SF, NL Pitcher of the Month
Snell started August by completing a no-hitter in Cincinnati on Aug. 2, striking out 11 and walking three. He continued his dominance throughout the month, posting a 1.64 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and leading the National League with 53 strikeouts, allowing just one home run.

Spencer Arrighetti, HOU, AL Rookie of the Month
Arrighetti turned his season around in August after struggling earlier in the year. The 24-year-old posted a 1.95 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts over 32 1/3 innings. He capped off the month with seven no-hit innings against the Phillies on Aug. 28.

Jackson Merrill, SD, NL Rookie of the Month
Merrill’s August performance made a strong case for NL Rookie of the Year. He hit .303 with a .626 slugging percentage, tallying seven home runs, 23 RBIs, and five stolen bases. Four of his seven homers were game-tying or go-ahead shots.

Josh Hader, HOU, AL Reliever of the Month
After a forgettable July, Hader dominated in August, giving up just one earned run over 13 1/3 innings (0.68 ERA) with a 0.60 WHIP, holding opponents to a .071 average. This marks his seventh Reliever of the Month award, but his first in the AL.

Raisel Iglesias, ATL, NL Reliever of the Month
Iglesias continued his dominance in August, allowing just two hits and no walks in 13 1/3 innings (0.15 WHIP) with 14 strikeouts. He hasn’t given up an earned run since June 16, maintaining near perfection as a reliever.
