MLB insider reveals that four major-market teams, including the Red Sox, are unlikely to land Juan Soto. The New York Yankees, who acquired Soto this past offseason, understood that they might lose him to MLB free agency, where he would attract interest from many teams. However, as the offseason approaches, the competition for Soto might be less intense than anticipated.
At 25 years old, Soto has consistently turned down the Yankees’ attempts to extend his contract this year. Represented by agent Scott Boras, Soto is determined to test the free-agent market, where he is expected to be one of the best players available. His current stats, according to ESPN, include a .291/.418/.586 slash line, 1.004 OPS, 37 home runs, 96 RBIs, 109 walks, and 27 doubles in 495 at-bats. Soto will be just 26 next season and has already established himself as a perennial MVP candidate, with significant improvements in 2024. His success in the Yankees’ lineup alongside Aaron Judge and his long-term potential make him highly sought after.
Juan Soto
Soto is expected to have a strong market this offseason, but some prominent teams may not be seriously involved. According to ESPN’s senior MLB writer Jeff Passan, a few big-market teams might not pursue Soto aggressively this winter. Soto is projected to become one of the highest-paid players in MLB history, with contract negotiations starting at 10-plus years and a total value exceeding $500 million. Some estimates even suggest he could secure a $600 million deal. Currently, the Yankees and New York Mets are seen as the leading contenders for his signature. However, dark horse teams like the San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays could also join the race. For now, the expectation is that Soto will sign with either the Yankees or Mets.
