Yankees Surprising Decision on Top Prospect
As MLB teams expanded their rosters with the arrival of September, many expected the New York Yankees to promote top prospect Jasson Dominguez, providing the young outfielder with more major league experience. However, the Yankees chose not to include the 21-year-old in their roster expansion.
Manager Aaron Boone explained the decision, stating, “When he comes up here, you’re going to want to play him every day. So, he’ll continue to remain in that conversation. He’s started to play well over the last couple of weeks after coming back from the oblique injury. It’s a tough call right now, but that doesn’t mean it can’t change in a few days, a week, or two weeks—whatever it is. But it’s important for him to continue to play right now.”
This decision comes amid the Yankees’ recent struggles, as they lost 14-7 to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Despite holding first place with a 79-58 record, New York has gone 6-8 in its last 14 games, including losing four of their last five.
Dominguez, a 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic, made his MLB debut with the Yankees last September and appeared in one game earlier this season. However, playing time could be an issue, as the Yankees’ starting outfield includes Alex Verdugo, Aaron Judge, and Juan Soto, with Giancarlo Stanton serving as the primary designated hitter.
In the minors this season, Dominguez has performed well, hitting .313 with an .870 OPS across three stops, demonstrating his potential as a valuable future asset for the Yankees.
