The Houston Texans have announced the release of former Florida Gators star cornerback C.J. Henderson. Henderson, who was drafted ninth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020 NFL Draft, has struggled to meet the high expectations set for him upon entering the league. Four years later, as NFL teams are required to trim their rosters to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the Texans have decided to part ways with him.
After spending two seasons with the Jaguars, Henderson played the last three years with the Carolina Panthers. His best performance came in 2022 when he started ten games, recording two interceptions, six pass deflections, and one forced fumble. However, in his five NFL seasons, he has only managed three interceptions across 49 career games.
The Texans signed Henderson this offseason in hopes that he could revive his career with a team aiming for a Super Bowl run, but the coaching staff ultimately chose to release him after evaluating their roster. Now, at 25 years old, Henderson will search for a new opportunity in the NFL. It wasn’t long ago that he was considered one of the top cornerback prospects after a stellar college career at Florida.
