Two former Virginia Tech men’s basketball players have been named among the Top 100 most impactful transfers for the 2024-25 season. After Virginia Tech’s early exit in the second round of the NIT at Ohio State in March, the Hokies’ roster underwent significant changes. Head coach Mike Young saw several key players, who were eligible to return, enter the transfer portal to continue their careers elsewhere for the upcoming season.
One player, Mylyjael Poteat, briefly entered the portal but decided to return to Blacksburg three days later for his final season. Despite adding new transfers expected to make an immediate impact, replacing some of the departing players will be a challenge.
Two of the five players who left via the transfer portal were recognized as some of the most impactful transfers for the upcoming season.
College basketball writer Tristan Freeman from Busting Brackets, a FanSided college basketball site, included two former Hokies, point guard Sean Pedulla and center Lynn Kidd, in his list of the Top 100 impactful transfers for the 2024-25 season. Both players were ranked within the Top 55, with Kidd, who transferred to Miami in the ACC, coming in at No. 54, and Pedulla, now at Ole Miss, ranked at No. 17.
Kidd had a breakout season for Virginia Tech last year, averaging 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while becoming a dominant low-post presence, often benefiting from Pedulla’s ability to penetrate the paint and set him up for easy baskets.
Pedulla, originally from Oklahoma, will be the hardest player for Young to replace. He averaged 16.4 points per game and took on a significant role after Rodney Rice left the program just before the season began, leaving the Hokies with only one true ballhandler. Temple transfer Hysier Miller will now be tasked with filling Pedulla’s shoes this winter.
