BREAKING: Jason Heyward sent heartbroken message to Dodgers

Freddie Freeman Shares How Jason Heyward Was Deeply Affected by Dodgers DFA

Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward began their careers together with the Atlanta Braves in the early 2010s. Although Freeman has enjoyed more success over the years, their friendship remained strong, leading to a reunion with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023.

Freeman leveraged his connections within the Dodgers’ front office to bring Heyward on board. When Heyward signed, Freeman was genuinely thrilled.

“I got my friend back, and I’ve been telling him how great the Dodgers have been for me,” Freeman said. “He’s really excited. He’s already worked out at Dodger Stadium, stayed at my house this week, and has been training with Robert Van Scoyoc, Aaron Bates, and our strength coach, Travis Smith. He’s going to be in L.A. for the next two weeks, and he’s really excited to be a Dodger.”

However, the Dodgers’ decision to designate Heyward for assignment took Freeman by surprise. Heyward had a solid 2023 season, posting an .813 OPS in 124 games, but he struggled at the plate in 2024, hitting just above the Mendoza line with a .682 OPS. The Dodgers made the tough business decision to part ways with Heyward, and Freeman revealed that his friend has been uncharacteristically quiet since, only sending a few texts here and there.

Heyward, who is likely going through a difficult time, could still be a valuable pickup for a contending team in need of outfield depth. FanSided’s John Buhler suggested that the Atlanta Braves could be a potential landing spot, especially since their current outfield of Jarred Kelenic, Michael Harris II, and Jorge Soler could use some adjustments.

Buhler noted, “Given Anthopoulos’s previous connection to Los Angeles and Heyward’s history with Brian Snitker during his minor league days in Atlanta, this could be a great opportunity. If Atlanta wants defense and postseason experience, I’d consider bringing Heyward in.”

Despite being 35, Heyward remains a strong defender with plenty of experience, making him a valuable asset for a team like the Braves or any club needing defensive help in the outfield.
