Virginia Tech Hokies News: Brent Pry Provides Injury Update, Soccer Teams

This edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News highlights a key football injury update and the return of both men’s and women’s soccer to the field. Football coach Brent Pry shared an important update regarding a significant player for the 2024 season. Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team aims for a third consecutive win to start the season, and the men’s soccer team begins their 2024 campaign tonight.

Brent Pry Updates on Tucker Holloway

Coach Brent Pry provided an update on wide receiver/punt returner Tucker Holloway in an interview with ESPN’s David Hale. The news is mixed: the team hopes to utilize Holloway during the final four games of the season while preserving his redshirt eligibility for 2025.

Holloway has been a crucial returner for the Hokies, often shifting field position with his dynamic play. In his absence, Jaylin Lane will take over punt return duties. Lane, who was one of the top punt returners in the nation at Middle Tennessee State before transferring to Virginia Tech, has shown promise.

“It’s great to have Jaylin,” said special teams coordinator Stu Holt in the spring. “He’s a former nationally-ranked punt returner at his previous school and flashed his potential last year, even returning one for a touchdown that, unfortunately, was called back. It’s great to have him on our team.”

Women’s Soccer Takes on Delaware

The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team, ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, will aim to extend their winning streak to three games in a non-conference match against Delaware. The Hokies have already secured shutout victories over Campbell (4-0) and James Madison (2-0) this season. This match is the second of three consecutive road games, with the final one scheduled for Sunday in New Jersey against Monmouth.

Men’s Soccer Kicks Off Season at Thompson Field

The Hokies men’s soccer team will kick off their season Thursday night at home at Thompson Field against North Florida, hoping to improve on their 2023 performance.
