Can the Yankees’ star duo make franchise history before the 2024 season ends? Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have a chance to achieve something that hasn’t been done by a pair of Yankees teammates in 15 years. With their back-to-back home runs in the Yankees’ victory over the Cleveland Guardians on August 20, the two became the first Yankees teammates to accomplish this feat in a game, joining a prestigious list of sluggers who have worn the pinstripes.
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto
Judge and Soto could join Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira in Yankees history, as the last pair to hit consecutive homers in a game was Damon and Teixeira, who did it six times during their 2009 World Series-winning season. Judge and Soto have already done it five times in the 2024 season. On August 21, Soto launched a 427-foot homer to center field, followed by two more home runs from Judge, though not in consecutive fashion as the day before. The entire Yankees lineup has found its rhythm against Cleveland, and there’s reason to believe Judge and Soto could repeat the feat.
With the Yankees sitting at 74-53 and 35 games left in the regular season, Judge, with 48 home runs, and Soto, with 36, both have over 30 homers on the year. It’s possible they could hit back-to-back homers again before the season ends, giving them a realistic shot at making franchise history.
