BREAKING: Virginia Tech football rival announces a surprising starting QB

Virginia’s head coach Tony Elliott has made a surprising decision by naming Anthony Colandrea as the starting quarterback for the 2024 season. Last year, Virginia Tech needed a victory over Virginia in Charlottesville on Thanksgiving Weekend to secure bowl eligibility. Leading up to that game, after a 30-27 upset win over Duke, Colandrea boldly predicted that after defeating Virginia Tech, the program would gain national attention.

However, things didn’t go as planned for Colandrea and his teammates. Virginia Tech dominated the game with a 55-17 win, securing a 6-6 season and later winning their bowl game against Tulane. This summer, Colandrea and Tony Muskett competed for the starting quarterback position at Virginia, and on Saturday, Elliott made the call.

As reported by Jacquie Franciulli of 247Sports, Elliott chose Colandrea as the starting QB for the season opener against Richmond, a decision that raised some eyebrows. Virginia won’t face Virginia Tech until Thanksgiving Weekend in Blacksburg, with 11 games and two bye weeks in between. Elliott is under pressure to improve on the team’s three-win season from 2023, aiming for bowl eligibility or at least five wins, and he’s placing his bet on Colandrea to lead the way.
