The heat made the start of fall camp tough, but he’s gradually getting used to it. “The first day of camp, my steps were getting light. I started seeing stuff,” he shared. “But I’ve adjusted now.”
Lambert-Smith transferred to Auburn in April after four seasons at Penn State, where he enjoyed a standout 2023 season, setting personal bests in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
He chose Auburn mainly because of the offensive style and his connection with the coaching staff. Interestingly, Lambert-Smith was already familiar with Auburn football, having played against them in 2021 and 2022, winning both games with Penn State.
“They ask me, ‘Did we play against you?’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m 2-0 against y’all,’” Lambert-Smith joked when asked if he talks about those games with his new teammates. “But we’re on the same team now. I’m with the good guys.”
The heat was a significant memory for him from Penn State’s visit to Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2022. “Coach Franklin told us it was a different type of heat down here, and he was right. During warm-ups, it felt like I had already played a full game,” he recalled. “And now I’m here.”
Lambert-Smith will face the heat again in his first game at Jordan-Hare Stadium on August 31 when Auburn plays Alabama A&M.
