Alabama Football Lands Top 2025 Running Back Commitment
Earlier today, Alabama secured the commitment of Akylin Dear, one of the top running backs in the 2025 class. After months of speculation, Dear finally made his decision, much to the delight of Alabama fans who had been eagerly anticipating this announcement since he set a commitment date a few weeks ago.
Dear, hailing from near Meridian, MS, had Tuscaloosa and Starkville as his two closest major college options, with Ole Miss also in the mix. While Auburn fans were hopeful, the battle for his commitment ultimately came down to Alabama and the two Mississippi schools.
Winning the recruiting battle for top talent from Mississippi has always been a challenge for Alabama, making this commitment particularly significant.
Ranked as the #1 RB by 247Sports and #2 by On3, Dear is a highly regarded prospect. The 247Composite ranks him as a 5-star, while other outlets consider him a high 4-star prospect, placing him within the top 40 players overall.
With Dear’s commitment, Alabama further solidifies its position ahead of LSU in the #2 spot in the recruiting rankings, edging closer to Ohio State, despite having fewer commitments. If Alabama continues to recruit at this level, they have a strong chance of securing the #1 overall class once again.
Dear had an outstanding junior year in high school, amassing over 2,000 yards and is expected to build on that success in his senior year. His combination of size, power, and long-striding speed is reminiscent of current Alabama running back Richard Young.
