Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, have made a significant contribution to a major college football program as the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback prepares for a potential third consecutive Super Bowl appearance.
Mahomes, who signed a 10-year contract extension worth up to $450 million with the Chiefs in 2020, is now giving back to his alma mater. On Thursday, Texas Tech University announced that the Mahomes family would donate $5 million to support the university’s new South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center, a project totaling $242 million.
Originally from Whitehouse, Texas, Mahomes was a three-star recruit in high school with only three collegiate offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Rice. He chose to take his talents to Texas Tech, where he played for three seasons and established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the school’s history. In his junior year, he led the nation in passing yards with 5,052.
Mahomes completed his college career with 11,252 passing yards, 93 passing touchdowns, 29 interceptions, and 22 rushing touchdowns, placing him eighth in Big 12 history for career passing touchdowns. After an exceptional junior season, he declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, where he was selected 10th overall by the Chiefs.
