Syracuse Basketball: An In-Depth Look at New ‘Cuse Big Man Petar Majstorovic from Serbia

Syracuse basketball has strengthened its front-court depth for the upcoming 2024-25 season with the addition of Petar Majstorovic, a 6-foot-9 center originally from Serbia and most recently playing in Haguenau, France. Syracuse Athletics recently announced that Majstorovic has signed a national letter of intent to join the Orange. The 2024-25 season will kick off when Syracuse faces Le Moyne at the JMA Wireless Dome on Monday, Nov. 4.

A warm welcome to Petar from ‘Cuse Nation!

With Majstorovic’s signing, it appears head coach Adrian Autry and his staff have nearly finalized their roster for the 2024-25 season. Following a 20-12 record last season, Syracuse saw seven players enter the transfer portal, and sophomore point guard Judah Mintz opted to turn professional.

The Orange’s 2024 recruiting class now includes two high school seniors, four college transfers, and Majstorovic. While one scholarship remains open for 2024-25, it seems unlikely that Syracuse will add another player at this point.

Majstorovic played for the ASVEL Basket Lyon-Villeurbanne U-21 team in the French ProA U-21 league during the 2023-24 season. In 34 games, he averaged 23.6 minutes, 9.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game, shooting 62.4% from the field and 67.9% from the free-throw line. He recorded double-digit points in 19 games, double-digit rebounds in nine, and registered seven double-doubles.

Syracuse, like many teams nationwide, has undergone a significant roster overhaul ahead of the 2024-25 season. In the front-court, small forward Chris Bell, a 2023-24 starter, and center Naheem McLeod, who played only 14 games last season due to injury, both return. The Orange also secured commitments from center Eddie Lampkin Jr., a four-star transfer from Colorado, forward Jyáre Davis, a four-star transfer from Delaware, and incoming freshman Donnie Freeman, a five-star power forward from Washington, D.C.

We take a deeper look at new Syracuse basketball big man Petar Majstorovic from Serbia, who provides vital front-court depth.

Bell is expected to start again in 2024-25, along with Lampkin, with Freeman likely competing for a starting spot. Davis, a versatile forward, can play either forward position. McLeod may also see significant minutes at center. Majstorovic, who joins as a freshman, is listed as a center but could potentially play both power forward and center roles.
