Good News: Kentucky Landed Its First Commitment With A Young Talented Star

Kentucky commit Malachi Moreno sends a public message to Jasper Johnson: ‘You know where home is.’

Kentucky basketball secured its first commit for the 2025 class on Friday with four-star center Malachi Moreno, ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect and the No. 2 center. Shortly after choosing Kentucky over other top programs like Arkansas, Louisville, and North Carolina, Moreno took the opportunity to recruit five-star shooting guard Jasper Johnson publicly. Both Moreno (from Georgetown) and Johnson (from Versailles) are Kentucky natives.

“You know where home is, Jasper,” Moreno said. “I have a list of people to text after this, and he’s one of them. We talk every now and then, and I always remind him, ‘There’s no place like home. BBN loves us, and we can fulfill our dream of wearing Kentucky across our chests.’ It’s a dream we’ve both had since we were kids.” Johnson, who recently narrowed his choices to Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Louisville, is reportedly leaning towards either Alabama or North Carolina, with Kentucky in a distant third, according to national basketball analyst Travis Branham.

Johnson, who grew up in Versailles, Ky., is set to play his senior season at Overtime Elite in Atlanta after averaging 13.5 points, 2.7 assists, and 0.8 assists as a junior at Link Academy. He is known for his scoring ability, with a natural touch and a wide array of finishes around the basket, as well as his proficiency from the perimeter.
