USC’s Lincoln Riley Names Starting QB to Succeed Caleb Williams
USC head coach Lincoln Riley has made the highly anticipated decision to name the quarterback who will succeed Caleb Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. After a competitive offseason and fall camp, Riley announced that sophomore Miller Moss will be the Trojans’ starting quarterback for the upcoming season.
Moss, who has been with the team since 2021, was chosen after impressing the coaching staff with his composure, decision-making, and leadership during practices. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds, Moss has patiently awaited his chance behind Williams, learning the intricacies of Riley’s high-powered offense.
“Miller has shown remarkable growth over the past few years,” Riley stated in a press conference. “His hard work and deep understanding of our system, along with his ability to perform under pressure, make him the ideal candidate to lead this team.”
A former four-star recruit from Bishop Alemany High School in California, Moss saw limited action last season while Williams took center stage. However, in his brief appearances, Moss demonstrated his potential by completing 70% of his passes for 400 yards and 4 touchdowns with no interceptions.
“I’ve been preparing for this moment since I came to USC,” Moss said. “Caleb set a high standard, and I’m ready to continue the tradition of great quarterbacks at this program. I’m excited to lead this team and compete for a championship.”
Riley’s choice to start Moss over other candidates, including freshman sensation Malachi Nelson and junior Miller Moss, underscores his confidence in Moss’s experience and readiness. With a strong supporting cast that includes star receivers and a solid offensive line, Moss will be responsible for keeping USC’s explosive offense on track and leading the Trojans back to the College Football Playoff.
