The Yankees part ways with trade deadline acquisition after just 2 weeks. Struggling recently, the New York Yankees seem to be conceding a mistake with one of their recent trade deadline moves.
On Wednesday, the Yankees announced they designated pitcher Enyel de los Santos for assignment amid a series of roster changes. De los Santos was acquired from the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline in exchange for a minor leaguer. This decision comes just two days after de los Santos gave up seven runs on eight hits in only 1.2 innings of relief against the struggling Chicago White Sox. He made five appearances for the Yankees post-trade, allowing at least one run in three of those outings.
Though the trade was minor and unlikely to have long-term consequences for the Yankees, it will probably fuel more criticism of GM Brian Cashman, especially considering the trade deadline was already viewed as underwhelming. The team failed to land a top-tier starter amid some puzzling decisions, and now their most effective acquisition is sidelined.

The Yankees finished June with an 11-13 record and have been inconsistent in August, going 6-5 so far. A particularly bad loss to the White Sox has left fans frustrated. While the Yankees deserve credit for quickly moving on from a player who wasn’t contributing, it raises questions about whether they should have done more before the trade deadline.
