Florida defensive lineman Jamari Lyons will miss the entire 2024 season due to a broken ankle, as announced by Gators coach Billy Napier on Monday. Lyons sustained the injury during the Gators’ first scrimmage of fall camp, and he was taken off the field with his leg in an air cast, according to 247Sports.
“Jamari is one of our best. He really cares. It was truly inspiring, in a way. The entire team was on the field, which is something I’ve never seen in my entire coaching career,” Napier shared with reporters. “We had all 132 players there supporting him as he was carried off the field, which shows that these guys are building a strong connection.”
The redshirt sophomore played in all 12 games last season, making one start. He recorded 20 tackles (10 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss. Standing at 6-foot-4, Lyons was a four-star recruit from Melbourne, Florida, in the Class of 2022. The Gators will kick off their season against No. 19 Miami at home on August 31.
