Yankees Executive Omar Minaya’s Wife Found Dead in NJ Home
First and foremost, my deepest condolences go out to the Minaya family, who must be experiencing unimaginable pain. On Monday morning, the New York Post reported that Rachel Minaya, the wife of former Mets General Manager and Yankees executive Omar Minaya, was found dead in their New Jersey home. The couple has two children, Justin and Teddy. Justin is currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers in the Summer League ahead of the NBA season. Omar and Rachel had been together since 1989, sharing a long and successful relationship. This tragic event has undoubtedly sent shockwaves through the Yankees organization.
Omar Minaya served as the Mets GM in 2004 and played a significant role in helping them reach the NLCS in 2006. As a Yankees executive, he has brought valuable experience and perspective to the team.
Minaya might have been instrumental in the trade that brought Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres to the Yankees, having spent four years in their front office from 2011 to 2015.
