New York Rangers Re-Sign Matthew Robertson to One-Year Contract

On Monday, New York Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury announced that defenseman Matthew Robertson has been re-signed to a one-year contract extension. The two-way contract will see Robertson earn the league minimum of $775,000 at the NHL level.

Robertson, who has been with the Rangers organization since 2019, has yet to make his NHL debut and has been playing with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL since turning pro in the 2021-22 season. The 23-year-old Edmonton native has tallied 55 points (10 goals, 45 assists) in 190 AHL games. During the 2023-24 season, he played a career-high 68 games, scoring 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) with a minus-11 rating. In 10 Calder Cup Playoff games, he recorded one assist and a minus-7 rating. His best AHL season was in 2022-23, with a career-high 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 57 games.

Before his AHL career, Robertson played four seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL, serving as alternate captain for three seasons and amassing 127 points (31 goals, 96 assists) in 208 games. He excelled in the 2019-20 season with 47 points (13 goals, 34 assists) in 60 games.

Internationally, Robertson has represented Team Canada twice, recording six points (two goals, four assists) at the 2017 U17 World Hockey Championships and two assists in five games at the 2017 U18 World Junior Championship.

Robertson was drafted by the New York Rangers in the second round (No. 49) of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
