The New York Yankees might have a compelling reason to trade their No. 2 prospect, Spencer Jones, this season, despite him being a standout in their farm system.
According to New York Post reporter Jon Heyman, Jones should remain untouchable unless the Yankees have the opportunity to trade him for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal before the July 30 MLB trade deadline:
“If the Yankees can pull off a major deadline deal to acquire Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal from the Tigers in exchange for a package including Jones, they should do it,” Heyman wrote.
“The Yankees are primarily focused on strengthening their bullpen, which is no surprise. But if they have the chance to get Skubal, no prospect should be off-limits. He’s that good.”
