Juan Soto’s ‘Uncomfortable’ Admission About Changing Teams

New York Yankees slugger Juan Soto expressed his desire for stability in his MLB career, indicating he’s tired of frequently changing teams. “It’s a little uncomfortable wearing different jerseys and changing teams,” Soto remarked at All-Star Game media day, according to ESPN and the New York Post. “I’m looking forward to wearing one for a long time.”

This sentiment is cautiously optimistic news for Yankees fans who hope the team signs Soto to a long-term deal. Soto has played for the San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals, and Yankees in the last five seasons. He has been a significant asset to the Yankees’ offense this season, helping them rebound from a disappointing 2023. Alongside Aaron Judge, Soto has powered the Yankees to the most runs scored in baseball, boasting a .295 batting average with 23 home runs and 66 RBIs.

Soto is set to appear in his fourth consecutive All-Star Game, a remarkable achievement considering he’s done so with three different teams. He has previously played in the game representing the Nationals and Padres before joining the Yankees. Soto’s accolades include four straight Silver Slugger Awards from 2020-2023, the National League batting title in 2020, and the Babe Ruth Award in 2019 when he won a World Series with the Nationals. Despite some recent hand injuries that have affected his play, he entered the All-Star break strong with four consecutive multi-hit games.

The Yankees’ ability to re-sign Soto remains uncertain. He’s under contract only for this season after being acquired from the Padres last offseason. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has publicly stated his desire to keep Soto for the remainder of his career.

“Who wouldn’t want to be with a team that wins?” Soto added. “For me, while you’re on a winning team, it’s always good to be there and be a part of it.”

The Yankees are positioned for a postseason run, currently holding a 58-40 record, despite a rocky last month. They stand second in the American League East after a tough loss to the Baltimore Orioles on July 14. The All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:00 Eastern, and Yankees fans will be eagerly supporting Soto as the American League aims for victory.
