BREAKING: 4-star Top Star commits to Kentucky football

4-Star DL Kalen Edwards Commits to Kentucky Football

Kentucky football has secured a key addition to its defensive recruiting class. Dyersburg (Tenn.) defensive lineman Kalen Edwards, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 330 pounds, announced his commitment to the Wildcats on Instagram.

Edwards selected Kentucky over Auburn, Louisville, and Memphis after his official visit to Lexington the weekend of June 21. Although UK emerged as his leader following the visit, he didn’t announce his commitment until Sunday evening.

The entire coaching staff played a significant role in recruiting Edwards, a Tennessee native. Co-defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach Brad White made him feel at home.

“Coach White reminds me of my defensive coordinator, and I like that because he reminds me of someone familiar. He’s a defensive guy. He said he would be involved in individual drills and on the line. In the meeting room, he told me to get up and hit him as hard as I could because he loves how defensive linemen strike. That’s something my coaches do here at home. It’s crazy. I love that.”

Defensive line coach Anwar Stewart also left a strong impression on Edwards.

“I really love the relationship with coach Stewart. I feel like he could really develop me and get me to the next level. It was all love from the moment I arrived. He was cool and kept it real.”

Edwards is rated .8975 by the 247Sports Composite, ranking him as the No. 38 defensive lineman and the No. 339 prospect overall in the nation. Last season, he recorded 47 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

With Edwards’ commitment, Kentucky football has moved up seven spots to No. 18 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings. Edwards is the first commitment from Tennessee for the Wildcats. Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class now includes representatives from nine different states. This commitment kicks off a potentially significant week for the SEC program, with announcements expected from Frankfort (Ky.) Western Hills defensive lineman Javeon Campbell, Columbus (Ohio) Marion-Franklin cornerback Dawayne Galloway, Dayton (Ohio) Trotwood-Madison offensive tackle Jermiel Atkins, and Pompano Beach (Fla.) Monarch wide receiver Samari Reed.
