BREAKING: Rangers swap disappointing winger for rising star center in blockbuster trade

The New York Rangers have had a relatively quiet offseason so far, despite many expecting them to make big moves in free agency. General Manager Chris Drury has opted for more subtle roster improvements.

However, a major trade could still be in the works. Reports suggest that the Rangers are interested in acquiring a superstar rumored to be available this offseason. They might trade away Kaapo Kakko to bring in Trevor Zegras.

The Rangers are reportedly keen on trading for Trevor Zegras, who has been mentioned in trade rumors for a while. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Rangers were among at least seven teams showing “serious interest” in Zegras earlier this offseason.

Although the first week of free agency has passed and Zegras remains with the Anaheim Ducks, a trade is still possible. Acquiring the 23-year-old center would be a significant move for the Rangers. Zegras, already known in the NHL, is seen as a rising star with immense potential.

In 2021, Zegras scored 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists), followed by 65 points (23 goals, 42 assists) in 2022, achieving back-to-back 60+ point seasons. Despite injuries limiting him to 31 games and 15 points in 2023, Zegras is a versatile player who could instantly enhance the Rangers’ lineup.

Kaapo Kakko, also subject to trade rumors, is reportedly awaiting the “right offer” to facilitate his departure from the Rangers. Trading Kakko for Zegras would be a move worth considering for Drury. Kakko’s best season saw him scoring 40 points in 2022, but injuries have plagued his career, and his trade value is decreasing.

Zegras has the potential to become a superstar, capable of scoring significantly more points than Kakko and adding much-needed speed to the Rangers. If the Rangers can trade Kakko for Zegras, they should act swiftly to finalize the deal.
