Craig Monroe Denies Sexual Abuse Allegations
Monroe’s Statement
Craig Monroe has firmly denied the recent sexual abuse allegations against him. His attorney, Michael Manley from Manley & Manley law firm, stated that Monroe, who was a Detroit Tigers announcer for Bally Sports Detroit, “vehemently” denies the claims made public on social media last month.
Allegations and Investigation
A 35-year-old woman has accused Monroe of grooming her since she was 12, during his early 20s. She told FOX 2 that the abuse began in Charlotte County, Florida, where her family hosted Monroe while he played for a minor league team. The alleged abuse escalated from fondling to intercourse by the time she was 15, and continued into her adulthood. Florida police have launched an investigation, and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Monroe’s Response
Monroe’s attorney issued a statement saying, “We will cooperate with law enforcement and are confident that once this case is fully investigated, Craig will be cleared of any wrongdoing. Craig Monroe takes allegations of this nature very seriously and would never commit or condone such despicable conduct. He and his family are shocked by these allegations and offer his accuser forgiveness and grace. We trust that law enforcement will uncover the truth regarding her background and motivations.”
Career and Current Status
Monroe had a significant career with the Detroit Tigers, playing for over five seasons and contributing to their 2006 World Series run. Since 2012, he has been a broadcaster for the team. However, following these allegations, he has been indefinitely removed from the air.
